"Each piece of the set utilizes techniques and devices of a particular musical period or style of Western music. These settings, however, employ contemporary musical practices, a musical perspective not unlike recalling an experience of long ago. The music is of medium-advanced grade scored for two flutes, or two oboes, or two clarinets with piano; or they may be played in interchangeable combinations.CLASSICAL SOUVENIRIn the early 18th century a new style of art and architecture emerged which was characterized by lightness, grace and frivolity. This “rococo” style—a term meaning “fancy shell-work” was reflected in music, as well, with melodies more elegant and flowing than those of the Baroque. The music of the following Classical Period (from the middle of the 18th century to the 1820s) also reflected some of these characteristics: lyric melodies, uncomplicated rhythm and straightforward harmony. Chamber music—music tor performance in a small concert hall—dates from this period. Some of the greatest composers include Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert." -
