The Clarinet Audition

"In The Clarinet Audition we set ourselves the goal of compiling an up-to-date overview of audition excerpts for Clarinet in A, B-flat and C, drawn from around 150 audition invitations from around the world. In this volume we have attempted to narrow down the material to sections that are actually relevant for auditions, although naturally not all excerpts will be equally relevant for every audition. The musical text is based on current Urtext editions, where available; in all other cases we have attempted to produce a reliable musical text by comparing scores and individual parts. Where there are significant deviations, these have been noted in a brief Critical Commentary at the end of the volume.

Study figures and letters have been copied from the originals and reproduced within square brackets. All of the rehearsal passages have also been numbered consecutively with the prefix TCA (The Clarinet Audition) and these numbers are given within round brackets. This numbering is intended to simplify communication between the orchestra and the clarinettist.

In some places cue notes, instrumentation, vocal parts, sun or spoken text and stage directions have been added to the notes of the clarinet part in the audition repertoire.

Metronome markings have been added with or without brackets according to their source. Those in square brackets have been provided by the editor. These are only intended as an aid for the beginner and cannot replace the experience of listening to actual performances or recordings of the relevant pieces."
