    From the arranger:

"Theodoor Verhey (Theodorus Hendricus Hubertus Verhey) was a Dutch pianist and composer (1848-1929). He wrote chamber music, operas, and concerti, including two for flute that have been recorded.

Robert DiLutis, clarinet professor at the University of Maryland, College Park, discovered Verhey's clarinet concerto by chance. It was included amongst a collection of dozens of compositions he purchased online. He was taken with the beauty of the work and determined to bring it to life.

Realizing that a performance with orchestra was infeasible, he commissioned his colleague Ray Fields to arrange the work for quintet, which has now been performed publicly--possibly for the first time-- and recorded. The arrangement is based on the autograph score in Verhey's own hand. The score is undated, but it was most likely composed sometime between 1902 and 1905, the period during which his op. 43 (flute concerto) and op. 50 (Elegy for flute and piano) were written."
