Giuseppe Tartini (1692–1770) was an Italian composer and violinist. This Concertino for Clarinet and String Orchestra is a freely revised and arranged collection of material from his violin sonatas, made by Gordon Jacob.
It is difficult to determine when Tartini's works were written, especially since they were often revised, with no known date records. Various attempts have been made to catalog Tartini's compositions; the "B" numbers used here to identify the sonatas are from Paul Brainard's Die Violinsonaten Giuseppe Tartinis (Göttingen, 1959). Jacob indicates that his Concertino arrangement was taken from two of Tartini's sonatas; depending on the sources (which have seen the influence of numerous publishers and editors over time), it could be identified from two or three sonatas. The date of composition for these works is tentatively placed around the early 1730s.
