  • Although the cover indicates that this edition is for violin, clarinet, and piano, the clarinet part is arguably unacceptable in its current state.  With rare exception, the clarinet part is merely a unison copy of either the violin or piano part, in some cases, with the beginning or end of a phrase intermittently trimmed off; the resulting effect of the clarinet's involvement is like that of an exacting "back-up voice."  In private settings, the intended trio configuration could perhaps provide opportunities for intonation training, as the clarinet must almost always play unison or octave pitches matching the other two instruments.

However, for regular performance, only a duo configuration is appropriate, using the violin and piano parts.  A clarinettist performing without a violinist, then, must transpose the violin parts to their respective pitched instrument.

Besides the B-flat Clarinet part for all 9 works, an additional alternative A Clarinet part is included for the Link, Mendelssohn, and Tchaikovsky arrangements.

This edition consists of 9 works:

Méditation, from Prelude No. 1 in C major, BWV 846
Johann Sebastian Bach, adapted and elaborated by A. Maechtle
Gavotte, Op. 7 (from Suite for String orchestra, Op. 1 No. 4)
    Arthur Bird
    Herbststimmung, Op. 78 (Autumn Mood)
    Schlummerlied, Op. 103 (Lullaby)
    Oscar Köhler
    Chant d'amour (Melodie romantique)
Emil Link, arranged by Fabian Rehfeld
Frühlingslied, from Lieber ohne Worte, Op. 62 No. 6 (Spring Song, from Songs without Words)
    Felix Mendelssohn
Abendlied, from 12 Klavierstücke für kleine und große Kinder, Op. 85, No. 12
Träumerei, from Kinderszenen, Op. 15 No. 7 (Dreaming, from Scenes of Childhood)
Robert Schumann, arranged by Louis Klemcke
June: Barcarolle, from The Seasons, Op. 37a No. 6
Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, arranged by Louis Klemcke

The approximate duration for each arrangement is listed below, along with a brief description of how the clarinet part copies the other two instruments.

Bach (5 minutes): The violin part is a full solo part, and the clarinet is a unison copy of the violin part with portions of each phrase trimmed off.
Bird (2.25 minutes): Only around 1/3 of the clarinet's part is a unison copy of the violin part, with the remainder comprising a legitimately unique, additional voice to the trio instrumentation.
Köhler Herbststimmung (2.25 minutes): The clarinet is nearly a unison copy of the violin part, except for some lower octaves, and a few simplified portions in mm. 37-41, and mm. 59-66.
Köhler Schlummerlied (2.25 minutes): Around two-thirds of the clarinet part is a unison copy of the violin part, and additionally, mm. 10-13 are a unison copy of the piano's right hand.
Link (3.75 minutes): The clarinet part is nearly a unison copy of the violin part from mm. 1-16; then the clarinet copies the piano's right hand in mm. 27-35, copies the violin in mm. 39-42 and mm. 51-67, and then imitates the piano in remaining mm. 68-71.
Mendelssohn (1.5 minutes): The clarinet part is a unison copy of the violin part in mm. 8-35, 50-71 and 78-82.  The clarinet's remaining measures also copy the violin part, with phrase portions intermittently omitted.
Schumann Abendlied (2 minutes): The clarinet part is a copy of the (arranged) piano part, mostly from the piano's right hand, reserving all of the melody for the violin.
Schumann Träumerei (2.5 minutes): The clarinet part is a copy of the (arranged) piano part, mostly from the piano's right hand, reserving all of the melody for the violin.
Tchaikovsky June (5.5 minutes): The clarinet copies violin in mm. 1-12, with portions of each phrase trimmed off . Copies piano in mm. 13-23, copies violin in 24-31, copies piano right hand in mm. 32-49, and m. 53, copies violin in mm. 54-70, copies piano in mm. 73-74, (mainly) copies violin in mm. 74-97, and copies piano in last 2 mm. (98-99).
