  • This book covers a thorough range of pedagogical issues, and is organized into four sections: Pedagogy, Effective Practicing, Daily Elements, and Additional Resources.

"Pedagogy" is the biggest section and comprises half of the book, addressing concepts of embouchure, relaxation, resonance, homogenizing the registers, altissimo technique, hand/finger technique, Boehm fingering principles, legato, articulation, and reeds.

"Effective Practicing" offers practice techniques and goals.

"Daily Elements" provides daily routines using scales in various forms:
    - Carl Baermann major and minor (harmonic and melodic) scales, extending into altissimo range
    - Major and harmonic minor scales in triplet rhythm (developed from Daniel Gilbert and Fred Ormand)
    - Carl Baermann major and minor scales in thirds, extending into altissimo range
    - Scale rhythm exercise (mixing duples, triplets, quintuplets, sextuplets, and septuplets)

"Additional Resources" briefly summarizes the factors of musical development on the clarinet, and lists recommended clarinet pedagogy and general musicianship books.

Over the course of 109 pages, Paglialonga explains concepts using a mixture of roughly half text with photographs/illustrations, and half music notation. Practical applications and exercises are included frequently.

Each concept receives only a handful of pages (although embouchure gets the most, at 8 pages!), but the writing is focused and densely packed with insight.
