"This work is inspired by the textures & gestures of vintage video game soundtracks from the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) and Super Nintendo (SNES) consoles. This is similar to a previous work of mine, DEMO, though Dichroic Shards utilizes the heavier tone of the bass clarinet to achieve a darker sound. It was composed with the use of guitar effect pedals in mind, though the written effects may also be achieved through the use of live audio processing software such as Ableton. It is recommended that this piece be performed by someone experienced with electracoustic performance, as it requires numerous different effect changes throughout the score."
