  • From the preface:
"Tone and Technique Studies for the Novice Clarinetist was written for students either working with a private teacher or supervised by a teacher in an entry-level clarinet class. This method emphasizes correct hand positioning and tone production to foster more rapid and successful student progress. This book, combined with a beginning band method in the classroom, will ensure that correct habits are established and reinforced. While a few select pages on rhythm and fingerings are included in this book, fundamental instruction on note reading and counting addressed in band method books will not be duplicated in these studies. Instead, the focus is on pedagogy particular to learning to play the clarinet successfully. With this premise in mind, it is essential that the young student be supervised by a specialist who can shape the student's progress as well as instruct them in essential skills and musicianship."
