Omitting the first movement's repeat of the first section will decrease the duration by about 2.25 mins.
Regarding movement 3:
Clarinetists using this arrangement should make careful decisions about the tempo of each variation, especially because some of the metronome and tempo markings are arguably slower than what is suggested in the original method (which contained no metronome markings, but indicates an opening "Andante" tempo). This arrangement's opening metronome marking of eighth-note=112 feels more like Larghetto/Adagio, instead of the original's Andante.
There are other alterations:
- A 2-bar restatement of the ending cadence fragment is inserted between the theme and Variation 1, to give the clarinet a short break.
- Without changing the amount of measures, re-scores Variation 2's second repeated section to give clarinet a short break on the repeat
- Variation 4 has been shortened by one bar, re-scored, and further altered; the clarinet line's rhythm is given the right hand of the piano, and harmonized against a new bass line, and the clarinet has new counter-melody material. Newly suggested metronome and tempo markings are slower than the original. The 2 repeats present in the original version are also omitted.
- Order is changed:
- The original's Variation 6 is omitted.
- Variation 6 is the original's Variation 7, and has been transposed from a major key to concert E♭ minor.
- Variation 7 is the original's Variation 8.
- Variation 8 is the original's Variation 9.
- Whereas the original ends with the 9th Variation, this arrangement finishes with an 18-bar Coda Finale.
