  • This edition consists of 68 études, each based on one of the 68 "Exercices de mécanique" (Exercises in Mechanism) from Klosé's Clarinet Method.  In the first edition of the Klosé Method published by J. Meissonnier, these exercises are on page 26; in the latest edition published by Carl Fischer, they are on page 12.  Composer Kristen Denny-Chambers states in the foreword that her adaptation and expansion of Klosé's finger drills was written with the goal of technically challenging and musically satisfying those who aspire to solidify finger fundamentals.

The first 37 études are a half page long in 4/4 time, beginning with the lowest range and in étude #23 introducing connections to the clarion register.  The second section's études (#38-58) are slightly longer at a two-third's page length in 12/8 time, and use more challenging rhythmic combinations.  The third section's (#59-68) études are full page length in 4/4 time, with sixteenth-notes as the fundamental rhythm value; they contain the largest leaps and use the upper clarion range the most frequently.

Aside from one étude that uses clarion B♭5, the range never exceeds clarion A5, making the book accessible to clarinettists of all abilities.
