"Just months prior to the pandemic, in the fall of 2019, I wrote a book of unaccompanied flute solos for Christmas. Who could've predicted that this book, The Christmas Flutist, would be so welcome to musicians isolated by COVID-19? Its success inspired me to extend the concept to other woodwinds, in this case the clarinet, but I didn't want to just adapt the flute pieces for the clarinet by changing keys or transposing the high notes, I wanted to write completely new arrangements specifically for the instrument.Because it difficult to sustain interest with a single unaccompanied wind instrument, I've kept the length of these pieces down to approximately 2 minutes. Tempos can be adjusted to suit your own ability. If you're a good improviser, feel free to add your own special touches or flourishes to these arrangements. The ornaments I've added can be changed or enhanced as well.
Besides church use, these pieces can be played almost anywhere. Have students play them during lessons in December. Carry this book with your clarinet to Christmas parties in case you're asked to perform. Never again will the lack of an accompanist hold you back!"
