Luigi Bassi (1833 – 1871) was an Italian composer and clarinettist. The Fantasia da Concerto was first published in 1865 by Ricordi. Bassi combined several melodies from Verdi's Rigoletto opera into a dazzling showpiece that has remained a programming favorite. Below is a broad outline of the opera source material upon which Bassi based his adaptation (only measures in the clarinet work that directly refer to the opera are noted). The opera's section and page numbers refer to the full score's 1914 Ricordi edition.
- mm. 1–11: Act I, No. 1 Prelude (page 1)
- mm. 17–32: Act II, No. 10 "Mio padre" recitative, by Gilda & Rigoletto (page 270)
- mm. 38–45: Act II, No. 10 "Piangi, piangi faniculla" duet, by Gilda & Rigoletto (page 285)
- mm. 50–88: Act III, No. 12 "Bella figlia dell'amore" quartet, by Duke, Maddalena, Gilda, Rigoletto (page 337)
