Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star is designed as a theme and four variations. It allows the separate instruments to be introduced and demonstrated individually, and then in conjunction with the previously introduced instruments. The final variation has all five members of the quintet playing. The publication includes short textual notes suggesting how to demonstrate each instrument (ex: "Introduce the Clarinet, showing the separate sections and the flat reed. Putting the reed and mouthpiece together, demonstrate the production of sound. Using the fully assembled instrument, play high notes and low notes.").
Chiapanecas is designed to let the audience participate, and also illustrates the sound of the complete ensemble in a manner that is easily recognized by children.
Without any spoken demonstration, the music alone is about 3.5 minutes. The spoken instrument introductions could vary in length; five instruments at 1 to 2 minutes each would add 5-10 minutes to the total duration.
