"These exceptional etudes for clarinet form an important development in Venezuela's musical heritage. Clarinet artist and educator Carmen Borregales commissioned twelve etudes from twelve outstanding Venezuelan composers who explore the country's popular music of traditional roots. Each etude draws from a specific genre of this music to demonstrate an innovative approach to technical practice and skill development for clarinet. Borregales provided composers with references for etude method books and the Venezuelan genres. In the editing process she contributed an extensive knowledge of expressive approaches and various musical details. She has recorded all twelve etudes to ensure each clearly demonstrated an aspect or technique from the overall pedagogical objectives (online playlist included). The results of their combined efforts form this comprehensive method book, 12 Etudes for Clarinet in Venezuelan Style. The method is devised for advanced-level players in developing pedagogical and performance practices."Readers are encouraged to consult Borregales' 2023 dissertation for context on Venezuelan music (as well as suggested fingerings for various études, found on pages 186–199).
