2022 Nielsen Clarinet Competition

Eligibility
The competition is open for all nationalities under the age of 30 on the first day of the competition.  Clarinetists must be born on or after 31 March 1992.

Three Fantasy Pieces (Drei Fantasiestücke), Op. 73, movement I, by Robert Schumann

Clarinet Concerto in A Major, K. 622, movement I, by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart; with piano accompaniment

3 Pieces for Solo Clarinet, movements II & III, by Igor Stravinsky

First Round

Day 1:

Première rhapsodie, by Claude Debussy

New piece commissioned for the Clarinet Competition, to be announced later

Day 2 - Choose 1 of the following:

Concertino for Clarinet, Op. 1, by Jeanine Rueff OR 

Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra No. 1, movements I & III, by Antonio Vivaldi OR

Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra No. 3, movements I & IV,  by Antonio Vivaldi OR

Clarinet Concerto No. 2, movement I, by Louis Spohr OR

Clarinet Concerto No. 4, movement I, by Louis Spohr

Second Round

Put together a program based on the choices below and perform in the order you prefer. Maximum performance time is 30 minutes.

3) Playing around Nielsen: Create and perform a collage for clarinet alone, 8-10 minutes long, from music by Carl Nielsen choosing from List A, and one or more solo pieces chosen from List B.
