This “rococo” style—a term meaning “fancy shell-work” was reflected in music, as well, with melodies more elegant and flowing than those of the Baroque. The music of the following Classical Period (from the middle of the 18th century to the 1820s) also reflected some of these characteristics: lyric melodies, uncomplicated rhythm and straightforward harmony. Chamber music—music tor performance in a small concert hall—dates from this period.
